Get to Know Ivy

A born and raised Islander, Ivy (she/her) (fluent in english and french) graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Washington State University while there on a rowing scholarship. After graduating, Ivy trained full time for two years as a part of the senior Canadian national team Olympic camp for rowing before heading to Montreal to complete her masters of physiotherapy from McGill. During her time at McGill, Ivy earned certification in treating female urinary incontinence and continued her professional growth by successfully passing her level one manual therapy certification with the Orthopedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

In her daily life, Ivy cherishes spending quality time with friends, cooking and finding tranquility through exercise. Ivy’s commitment to daily movement is reflected in her enthusiasm for trail running, cycling, racket sports, and weightlifting.

What truly drives Ivy as a physiotherapist is her belief in empowering individuals to take control of their own healing. She accomplishes this by leveraging evidence-based exercises and movement. Ivy’s holistic approach emphasizes understanding not only a client’s physical impairments but also the broader bio-psycho-social factors that may be contributing to their injuries. This comprehensive perspective ensures that Ivy provides the most effective and personalized care for her clients. As a decade-long rower (with three world championships under her belt), Ivy is particularly interested in athletic injuries, injury prevention and women’s health, with a focus on pelvic floor therapy and chronic pain management. Get to Know James

James has experience working in Strength and Conditioning as well as Pre/Rehab with athletic populations including professional, para and youth athletes. His goal is to provide an excellent standard of care through evidence-informed, effective Massage Therapy while integrating the best practices in manual therapy and remedial exercise.

A lifelong learner, James is a 2020 graduate from Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy, holds a degree in Kinesiology from the University of the Fraser Valley, and is a trained Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Some of his major clinical interests include the science of pain management, neuromuscular control, therapeutic exercise with the goal of helping people get back to what they love.

Outside the clinic, you may find James nose-deep in a book or spending the weekend adventuring in the gulf islands.

Get to know Lauren

Lauren completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Victoria.

Lauren’s interest in kinesiology stemmed from her background in competitive ballet, tap, and modern dance. During her time dancing, Lauren starred in several productions of The Nutcracker and, alongside her teammates at the Coast Academy of Dance, won first place in numerous dance competitions. Additionally, she completed advanced ISTD dance examinations and underwent two years of ISTD dance instructor training.

As a kinesiologist, Lauren integrates her knowledge of movement from her experience as a dancer with evidence-based kinesiology practices. Lauren is passionate about helping individuals maximize their health and performance using exercise. She loves collaborating with clients to design tailored exercise programs and healthy habits that can be enjoyed and integrated into their lives! Additionally, Lauren values education and enjoys sharing her knowledge of the human body, exercise, and health.

Outside the clinic, Lauren loves spending quality time with her partner and her pup, curling up on the couch with a book, cooking and baking, and exploring the beaches of Vancouver Island.

Get to Know Christian

Christian Louwers is a graduate from the University of Western Ontario’s Physical Therapy program. He has returned to Vancouver Island to soak up the many natural attractions that the Island has to offer and help promote the health, wellness, and function of the island’s residents.

Christian enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle and likes to regularly partake in a variety of activities such as: hiking, running, strength training, volleyball, and badminton. Above all of these, Christian is a die-hard soccer fan and lives and breathes the sport! He watches all the English Premier League games, and constantly studies the current trends and dynamics of the beautiful game. In addition to watching the game, he has played competitive soccer for over a decade!

Christian strives to marry his background knowledge as an athlete with his clinical expertise. He studies the best available evidence offered in the physiotherapy literature to provide the highest standard of client-centered care possible.

Christian understands that life is too short to not be able to enjoy the activities that we love. His goal as a physiotherapist is to create an environment that cultivates a strong practitioner-patient relationship; with the intent of promoting trust, belief, and effective independent management to allow us to overcome disability and manage/improve our physical function. Get to Know Josh

Josh is a graduate from the Camosun Massage Therapy program. He became interested in massage after an RMT was able to completely relieve aches and pains that had been bothering him for years. It was a powerful experience that sparked an interest in manual therapy.

Josh is fascinated by the balancing act that we all do every day in order to recover and keep making progress, and has seen how massage can play an important role in this. He is committed to providing ethical and evidence-based therapy, and believes that all treatments should have measurable and worthwhile benefits. Josh uses a mixture of myofascial techniques, trigger point therapy, joint mobilizations, and classic Swedish massage. Vanessa became a registered massage therapist in 2015 after graduating from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy. She found her passion in helping people recover from injuries and educating them how to stay fit so they can take on the world. One of Vanessa’s passions is helping people with post surgical rehabilitation and injuries involving burns, by breaking down scar tissue. Jacob Ketterer has completed an undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Victoria, and a Diploma of Acupuncture from Pacific Rim College. He recently wrote his BC Acupuncture board exams, and is now a fully licensed R.Ac.

In his Diploma of Acupuncture, in addition to needling and moxibustion, Jacob received training in adjunct therapies such as Cupping, Gua Sha (scraping), and Tui Na – a form of gentle Chinese massage encompassing acupressure as well as a number of other techniques. Currently, Jacob is offering treatments involving the above-mentioned adjunct therapies.

In his personal life, Jacob is an avid weightlifter, hiker, reader, and paddle boarder. His education has been inspired by an ongoing passion for health and wellness, and being able to extend that passion to the public.

Emily completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Kinetics at St. Francis Xavier University, where she also spent two years working as the student athletic therapist for the men’s basketball team.

She continued her education at Queen’s University and graduated with a Master of Science degree in physiotherapy.

Get to Know Scott

Scott completed a post-doctoral fellowship (FCAMPT) in Physiotherapy at University of Western Ontario, having previously completed Doctorate and Masters degrees. He enjoys applying the most up to date evidence based treatments to help patients get objectively based results better in fewer visits using Manual therapy, education and therapeutic exercise.

He is proud to serve our local community and is committed to providing one-on-one care with integrity, innovation and energy. He teaches in both the Canadian and American Orthopedic Fellowship program and actively mentors other therapists in their pursuit of excellence.

Scott completed his professional Physiotherapy degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia after doing a degree in Kinesiology. He was an Academic and Athletic All-Canadian during this time. In 2000, he was awarded a yearlong Scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport, working with world-class scientists and athletes.

He has continued to develop his knowledge over the years by taking a multitude of advanced orthopedic and sports related courses. He has worked with numerous elite sports disciplines including triathlon, rowing, soccer and athletics. He has been honoured to provide his professional skills internationally as Team Physiotherapist for the Canadian National Team.

Scott has been an avid athlete from a young age and understands the impact and benefits that activity can have on the body. He has participated in soccer, golf, hockey and baseball at a provincial level, but has excelled in endurance sports, notably distance running. A Canadian National Team member spanning 2001-2010, Scott was the 2006 Canadian National Champion at the 10k distance. He has been the BC road racing champion (2009 and 2010) and top Canadian in the TC10k. He has won the local Bazan Bay 5k twice, His personal best over the 10k distance is 29:33.

Get to Know Kiana

Kiana completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology degree at the University of Victoria and continued her education at UBC where she graduated with a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy.

Kiana grew up in Fort St. John BC enjoying a wide array of sports, including soccer, volleyball and running track. Kiana chose to focus her efforts on soccer and that led her to the island to play for the Highlanders during high school.

Kiana now spends much of her free time training for long distance triathlon events and is looking to add some longer trail races to her calendar. Kiana has completed two 70.3 Ironman triathlons and is gearing up for her first full distance Ironman this summer!

Kiana has successfully completed her level one manual therapy exam with the Orthopaedic division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and has a keen interest in treating sports orthopedic injuries and working with individuals affected by chronic pain and conditions.

Get to Know Kieran

Kieran is a graduate of the Master of Science in Physiotherapy program at the University of Alberta. He has a particular interest in overuse injuries in both athletics and occupational settings. Additionally, he believes strongly in the increasing role for physiotherapy in injury prevention.

Kieran grew up in Riding Mountain National Park in south western Manitoba. A lifelong runner and cross-country skier, he competed nationally in both sports as a university student, and spent time racing and travelling internationally with cross country skiing.

A former wildland firefighter for several summers in western Alberta, Kieran also has insight into the challenges and common injuries that occur in physically demanding occupations. His goal is to provide practical and personalized rehabilitation that fits the time constraints and lifestyles of those balancing a busy career with an active lifestyle.

Outside of work, Kieran enjoys many outdoor activities, and participating in community sports programs. He is always looking for good trail running routes, and coffee shop suggestions.

Get to Know Tyler

Tyler graduated from the well-respected Masters of Physical Therapy program at the University of Western Ontario. This program was a natural progression for him following the completion of his undergraduate degree in Human Kinetics from the University of British Columbia Okanagan. Tyler worked as a student athletic trainer at the UBC Sports Medicine clinic, working alongside Physiotherapists, Athletic Therapists, Sport-Medicine Doctors in their treatment of athletes.

Tyler played seven seasons in the BC Soccer Premier League and was the recipient of the BCSPL Player of the Year Scholarship in his graduating year. He went on to play four years for UBC Okanagan Men’s Heat Varsity Soccer Team while achieving CIS Academic All-Canadian Athlete status. Growing up in Kelowna, Tyler is also an avid skier, golfer, and cyclist.

He has successfully completed his level one manual therapy exam with the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and will continue pursuing his FCAMPT designation. Tyler has experience as a Physiotherapist with the management of sports orthopedic injuries, concussion, pediatrics, a variety of neurological conditions, and post-surgical rehabilitation.

A lover of the outdoors, he is happy to be back on the West Coast with friends and family. He looks forward to meeting and helping our community with a research-based approach to honest, ethical, and active care.
